The Deets

The Scene

Podcast Setting And Staging

With musically accompanied intro and outros, the diverse cast of narrators reads and reflects upon a vast menagerie of short stories. Every sci-fi possibility is covered, and non-western stories are given preference. It’s a podcast that really opens eyes and minds to the possibilities.

The Crowd

The Escape Artists are all masters in their own right, and together they make an amazing project.  My personal favorite is Alasdair Stuart, who is clever, compassionate and thinks deeply. Mur Lafferty, one of the founders, does an amazing job keeping the escape pod flying, and all the other hosts do great work.

The Moves

Podcast Pacing And Story Choice

One out of every hundred stories that is submitted makes it into the Escape Pod’s presentations. That tells you how much they get, and how carefully they choose. And choose they do: the best, the most painful, the most beautiful and the most life changing stories.

Episodes like One More Day In The Desert will break your heart.  Episodes like The Revolution Brought To You By Nike, which I’ve reviewed before, will make your soul soar. And stories like Mother Tongues really makes us ask questions about what matters and what it means to be who we are.

The Vibe

Overall Rating

A must listen for all sci-fi fans. Listen, open your eyes and open your mind.
